Amazon Web Services to pay with bitcoin. Is this legit?
First time buy on craigslist and the seller sent me an invoice that works through amazon web services. The email it was sent through was [email protected]. I’ve never seen anything like this before and it is also saying that I must purchase bitcoin in order to purchase the item for security reasons and because it is a more expensive item. This seems sketchy but I’m not sure if I’m just unfamiliar with this platform. Will also be calling amazon for help. Help please! Edit: Definitely a scam. MFA on bitcoin transactions seems to be broken or insecure. Paying with bitcoin through Coinbase online payment resulted in no SMS confirmation, but when cancelled, the payment was still processed.
This isn't the end of me, but I was buying server time through real-debrid.com. They are European. There were several payment options, Coinbase being one of them. I chose the 3 month plan (9 euros) the Coinbase login and payment processing page popped up. I accepted all values and upon hitting NEXT, the dialog box for 6 digit numeric authorization popped up, but I never received an SMS message. I cancelled the transaction and tried it again and didn't receive an SMS again. At this point I just cancelled and paid with a credit card, but within a minute or two, I received emails for both of my cancelled transactions indicating that they went through. This isn't a tech support forum and I'm only out 15E or so, but it would appear to me that Coinbase has some serious flaws in their online payment processing system. What if these are multi-thousand Euro transactions? That would suck.
Why will anyone ever pay with bitcoin if it is expected to go up in value always? (due to limited supply etc)
Million dollar question if BTC has to become a payment mechanism. And secondly how will businesses who are taking payments in BTC attribute value of goods in BTC? Say 1 bottle of shampoo costs 5$, what will be its price in BTC? If it is directly converted from Fiat, then the first problem comes up again, no? I am sure probably few people will have a very clear answer to this, but am just looking for open opinions so that we can figure out the possibilities.
